Shear Strength
In comparison with the amount of weight it can hold wood is strong enough to hold a lot of weight. One bottle does not weigh so much but get three or four hundred bottles on a rack and the strength of wood stands the test of weight and time. Wood lasts you for years to come and easily maintained or repaired as the years go on. If a metal rack that is full of over four hundred bottles of wine begins to give way at the bottom, all you can do is hope it holds long enough to get all the bottles out and attempt to repair it. Wood holds its strength and shows age as years go on and on before you would dream of having such a catastrophe.
Easy To Work With
Many people use the wood racks because they are easy to put together. It is easy even for a less experienced person to build with whether you want to stack them vertically or horizontally. Wood is light in comparison the weight it holds making it more unproblematic to work with. It is also not going to break your bottles when loading or unloading them from the rack. This is one major drawback to metal racks. If you knock a bottle into the side of a metal rack, it is more than likely going to crack or shatter.
Color Appeal
You may want to keep the wood look raw and untouched but many want to have it add more color and flare to a wine cellar. Paint a wine wood rack in any color, style or design your heart desires. Choose one solid color or simply a wood stain. If you like, go abstract and paint it multiple colors to make it stand out. It is simply a pallet and you are the artist.
