Home Decor Collections Items

Whether you are decorating a new home or starting a new home furnishings decor project for your home you will need to start without a plan. Not coming up with a plan at the start will cause the home decorator to experience severe problems later. Components that should be considered during the planning stage are the color scheme and the furniture.

If the only part of your decorating that is going to change is the color scheme, then you should pick a color that matches the current home furnishings decor. It is tempting to go with the first color of paint you think you want immediately, but you should resist this urge. Take many swatches home with you. In addition to the swatches, you could get sample jars of paint and coat small portions of one of your walls. Leaving the color on for a few days will let you see how the color looks in different light settings.

Above all else, your chosen home furnishings decor should be realistic. Consider what you will need for the room and purchase furniture accordingly. Family room furniture would not work well in your formal living room, for example. Avoid getting the wrong size furniture by measuring carefully and avoid getting the wrong shape furniture by designing a small diagram that shows the placement of all the windows and doors. Always choose your furniture after you have decided upon the wall art and carpeting.

A place to begin is frequently the most frustrating part of home decorating. One of the most difficult parts of your design process can be figuring out which home furnishings decor you want. It is tempting to skip a very vital step of the design process, and that is coming up with a list of goals that you want to accomplish. Always decide upon a budge as part of your goals. Including this step will permit you to focus your efforts on projects that allow you to stay within your budget.

Many people turn to the internet for new ideas and to find tips on how to save money. There are also many online merchants whom you can buy your furniture through at discount prices and save a great deal compared to when you buy at stores. For people who have particular needs or unique tastes, it is a great idea to use the internet to help you achieve those goals.

Tile Ready Shower Pans For Fast Shower Construction

Tile ready shower pans are a modern alternative to traditionally built shower pan liners for ceramic tile showers. Traditional pans require masonry skills and some art for several of the construction steps. Tile ready pans require skill too, but not as much skill. Also the newer designs go in faster since there is no cure time for masonry liners.

The new design shower pans are ready for ceramic tile setting as soon as they are installed. The drain is built in to the base pan and the slope is built into the pan. Check local building codes for approval of whatever system you choose.

The traditional shower methods work great if done properly and are especially suited for custom sizes. But the newer systems are perfect for custom sizes too and are especially good for multi-unit installations like apartments or hospitals. The disadvantage of tile ready showers is cost. Installation is faster but cost is consistently higher. In most cases you can get a traditional shower pan built for just the cost of the ready made shower pan material. So look carefully at cost.

Consider these three systems.

The Tile Redi system includes a polyurethane pan with a built-in drain. Standard pan sizes come with built in curbs and side shields. The pan sets in a mortar base supplied by the builder. Level the unit and attach all the pieces and it's ready for tile installation. Check the prices!

The Schluter system has a pan with material for foam curbs and sealing material for the shower wall plus matching adhesives. The Schluter also includes a matching drain. This system is better suited for odd size locations and has the large advantage of sealing the entire wall. The pan sets in a mortar base and after installation is ready for tile.

Lastly, the Wedi system from Germany uses foam panels with adhesive to build any size shower. Foam boards make up the walls for a completely waterproof shower. The pan is set in a mortar base and is ready for tiling the morning after installation.

Conventional masonry construction of shower pans builds ceramic tile showers that will last for decades at a reasonable cost. Tile ready shower pans do have advantages in some situations.

They come in a wide range of styles and finishes that is practically impossible not to find something that you like. From wood to metal and various other materials, curtain poles are definitely in style right now. The only question that you have to ask yourself is: which style are you?

If you prefer a more traditional style for your home, then perhaps you might be interested in wood curtain poles. Made from elegant types of wood such as Mahogany, Teak or Walnut, these poles will certainly improve any home décor. And if you really want to dazzle everyone entering your house, then you can think about purchasing wooden curtain poles that are painted or come with special effects.

Modern home owners often choose metal curtain poles, preferring those that resemble the Middle Ages, made from wrought iron. Other popular choices include brass and chrome. When it comes to curtain poles, you have all these options as well and even more. Thanks to the appearance of numerous virtual stores, you can mix and match all you like. You can choose every single detail for your curtain poles, including the finial, color, size and brackets. Dressing your window the right way can improve the overall appearance of a room, creating the style that you want and enjoy. With double curtain poles, you will obtain the desired effect instantly and take delight in the contemporary style that they give. If you have a room with big windows, then you can go with long poles. They start at 3 meters and continue up to the desired length. You definitely have from where to choose, no matter the type of curtain poles you are interested in.
You don’t have to wonder about the purpose of having curtains. They prevent light from coming in and they have an amazing effect when it comes to decoration. Curtain poles are highly functional elements and everyone considers them as useful. The wide range available offers one the opportunity to enjoy a contemporary, modern or traditional style. The poles have different lengths depending on the preference of the customer and they are made from different materials, including the ones mentioned above.

The individual style that curtain poles offer starts with selecting the finials and holdbacks. These provide the actual window treatment that everyone is interested in. With modern curtain poles, one can be sophisticated and elegant, classic and new age. Matching elements are highly in demand right now, such as wooden curtain poles and holdbacks made from the same wood. Minimalist home décor styles are also popular, that being the primary reason why so many people prefer curtain poles that are made simply from wood or metal.

As a general conclusion, curtain poles are essential purchases for any home improvement projects. You want your house to be unique and imprinted with your very own individual style. That is why you should consider every detail and challenge yourself to select only the best. Curtain poles are part of modern window treatments, despite the style that you select. You can go with dramatic effects and innovative elements inspired from modern times. You can select reproduction curtain poles, with Regency and Victorian style. Just make sure that everything is right and that the fabrics you have chosen for the curtains match the newly installed poles!

Things To Consider In Bathtub Refinishing

You could be thinking about refinishing tubs. After all, it is a far cheaper option than buying and installing a new tub. There are however, a couple of points you should have in mind when it comes to sprucing up that old tub in your bathroom.

Professional Help or Not

The first real concern that you would have to settle is who should refinish your tub. More and more people are choosing to do the refinishing themselves. You can simply buy a refinishing kit and follow the instructions to get the bathtub of your dreams. This is definitely the cheapest option.

You should however, only attempt this if you are quite a handyman and if you have had some successful experiences with home improvement. Refinishing a bathtub requires a lot of patience, common sense, skill and attention to detail. You would have to meticulously clean the tub, handle chemicals and spray paint with a steady hand.

If you are not up to the task, you should look for a professional to do the job. An online search can quickly provide you with lots of professional options to choose from. Since different service providers have different levels of work quality, you should consider asking for recommendations from friends on from online forum members.

Work Safety

Bathtub refinishing probably won't kill you on the spot. It does have its dangers though. This is especially since you will be handling acids, chemicals and paint. If you want to do the job yourself, make sure you have the right kind of protection. Aside from a ventilator for yourself and the room, you also need a respirator, long gloves, goggles and work clothes.

Following Steps

These days, you just need to buy a good kit to get things done. You only have to read the instructions and carefully follow them. Of course, you have to determine first if you are good at following possibly technical steps. In general, refinishing includes such steps as tub clean-up, surface preparation, crack filling, masking, removal of faucet parts, base coating, and spray painting. Do not attempt the final step if you have a shaky hand or a poor motor control. You would probably get a tub with an irregularly painted surface.

Liner Application

It is possible not to get into the nitty-gritty steps of refinishing. You might want to use bathtub liners instead. As the term suggests, liners are placed over the tub surface like a cover or a layer. You might not want this option though if the overall condition of your tub is not good. A liner may not last very long.

You might think that there is nothing much to refinishing tubs. But it really is a demanding task and you have to be sure you can do it.

Home Theater Installation: What To Ask The Professionals

Many home owners are opting to have their home theater system component installed by professionals. Using these services, you can save yourself time and to ensure it is done properly. It also reduces the likelihood of damaging your new equipment, your walls or your existing wiring when you have someone with experience taking the lead.

There are lots of things that you have to ask a custom home theater installer before they get started. You want to be sure you understand as much as you can about their processes, standards and costs in order to ensure your home theater turns out the way you envision.

Most qualified installers will make a good deal of information available to you right at the start. However, make sure you have the following questions answered before you commit to the installation.

Timeline

Ask your custom installer how much time the installation is estimated to take. This way you and your family can better plan for having installers in your home and for the potential noise associated with moving and assembling equipment and drilling holes.

Budget

It is important to understand up front all of the costs associated with the installation. Questions you should ask include:

1. How much will it cost you to have your home theater system installed?
2. If installation comes as part of your home theater equipment purchase, does that include all of the installation, or will there be additional costs?
3. If the installation timeline runs long or there are unforeseen complications, who will pay for that added time? How much will it be?

Structural Changes

If your custom home theater installation includes adding in-wall speakers, mounted flat panel televisions or mounted rear projection screens, ask what kind of drilling they expect to need to do and any issues this may cause with your home’s electrical, phone or internet services. It is important to understand where changes to your wall or ceiling structure may take place.

System Education

It is great to have a custom installer come in and do all the difficult work of setting up and wiring a home theater system. But if the family has no idea how to run it, or how to troubleshoot problems down the road, it can be quickly rendered useless. It is therefore important to ask about the installer’s education or tutorial package. Make sure that they will walk you and your family through using the system and help diagram or explain how the system is connected when it is set-up. Also ask about whether they have a support number that can be reached should you have problems in the future.

Component Upgrades

To make sure you don’t need to completely re-installer a new home theater in a few years, ask your custom theater installer about the best way to upgrade television sets, DVD players or game boxes in the future. As new or better systems become available and your budget allows, you will want to know that you can fairly easily swap out the new for the old.

By asking the right questions before the installation of your home theater system, you'll be able to experience the best that the system will have to offer to you.

Luxury Baby Bedding And Baby Furniture To Match Your Baby's Style

Many parents only have a vague idea of all of the baby gear they'll need for their baby. The basics include a car seat (assuming you have a vehicle), a stroller (unless you plan to wear your baby in a wrap, and even then most babies are too heavy to wear by the time they are a year old), an infant seat or high chair (somewhere to place your baby for feeding time and snack time), and a place to sleep. Depending on the parent you speak with, you'll find that there are many different options for what a baby should sleep in. You have your standard crib, a playpen (often referred to as a Pack 'n Play, which is actually the name of Graco's playpen and not a synonym for playpen or activity yard), bassinets, Moses baskets (these are only appropriate for babies who are not sitting up) and cradles. There are also in-bed and bedside cots for those parents who wish to co-sleep with their babies. These sleeping choices are perfect and convenient solutions for breastfeeding mothers, as they put baby within arm's reach. Not having to get up and go across the room or down the hall for a hungry baby at two in the morning is always a relief!

Most parents will tell you that the best solution for sleeping is a crib outfitted with luxury baby bedding. A crib grows with your baby, and many convert into toddler beds and even full-sized or queen-sized beds. The crib is the queen of baby furniture, simply because it lasts so long and provides a truly safe haven for your baby. Cribs feature adjustable bottoms and sides. This means that infants can have their crib mattresses raised up so that Mom and Dad don't have to lean too far into the crib to pick them up or place them down. For babies who are pulling themselves up and young toddlers that are standing, the crib mattress can be dropped to a very low height, so that there is no risk of the child being able to push themselves over the railing and out of the crib.

Once you do select the appropriate Baby Furniture for your child to sleep in, you'll need to think about baby bedding. Luxury baby bedding is one choice that many new parents, mothers especially, will often make room in their budget to splurge on. This is because baby bedding is a once-in-a-lifetime investment for your baby, as you only need one dust ruffle, one crib bumper and headboard cover, one blanket or quilt and a few different crib sheets. Not only is luxury beautiful, it also feels super soft on your baby’s skin. While Luxury Baby Bedding is often more expensive than standard crib bedding, you're paying for exceptional style and quality materials that will last with even the most active of babies.

Selecting Among Vertical Blinnnds Options With Decor

Vertical blinds are lovely for some of us while others have different preferences. Still, controlling the amount of sunlight in your home presents a challenge. It is difficult to install vertical blinds and shades for some types of windows. Vertical blinds are not always possible and they might not be practical. Through this article, we will examine some types of window difficulties and introduce the answer to light control. Some solutions may suggest the use of vertical blinds, but others may not.

It is often difficult to deal with sliding glass doors. Because they are so large, light entering through them can sometimes become overwhelming. Because of the sizes of sliding doors, vertical blinds are often not a popular choice although they can fit quite well in sliding doors. Try this: divide the window shade by the total number of glass panels you have. One panel of a sliding door is movable and the other is not. Making it a two-on-one arrangement will be excellent. This works well especially if you have a lot of people coming in and out of that certain door. For people who do not wish to use vertical blinds on such a size of a window, this is a good answer.

French doors can lead to difficulties. Although vertical blinds look wonderful on them, occasionally the door handle interferes with the operation of the vertical blind. You have several choices available if the door handle interferes with the blind. A vertical blind that has a low profile head rail will fix the problem. Something will be required to prevent the slats of the vertical blinds from moving too far away from the door. This will help to diminish the intrusion of the door handle.

Bathroom windows pose some problems for vertical blinds. The moisture present in bathrooms can breed mildew and mold. Good ventilation will stop mildew from multiplying, but you need privacy while in the bathroom. Bathroom moisture causes some vertical blinds to warp, and in time, to crack. Clearly, vertical blinds that can withstand the stress are required.

Skylights are incorporated into many modern homes. Because they provide natural light and heat, they are very popular. Still, at times they may let in too much light, which can cause homes to become too hot and overly bright. Because of the skylights positioning, it can be difficult fitting vertical blinds but it is possible. There are a few companies offering mechanically controlled blinds possibilities. Sky rise skylight systems for tall buildings are one of them. There are a few who offer blinds and shades that can be controlled manually or by motor. This will both maximize your enjoyment of your skylight and allow you to control how much light enters.

Several of us have big windows with splendid sights. Many types of window treatments that block sunlight can also hide the scenery. A good solution to this problem is to purchase vertical blinds that have a great deal of width between the slats. The blinds will block sunlight without obscuring your view.

Some archways and odd shapes above our doorways make it seem impossible to fit vertical blinds. Some companies will make vertical blinds according to your specification; on the other hand, vertical blinds of other companies will have to be re-sized. Instead of the usual cords, a pole operates them so they are easier to use. This may help you get access to some hard-to-reach areas.

Vertical blinds fit in almost window but many of us may prefer something different and unique. Often when you are dealing with window and skylight problems, vertical blinds can correct them. Vertical blinds can be fabricated to adjust to just about any situation.

Bathroom Remodeling: How Difficult Is It?

Even more popular than kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling is the most common of all home improvement projects. The typical bathroom receives more traffic than any other room in the house. It is also considered by many people to be a place of relaxation where a person can find relief from everyday stresses. If your bathroom is stale, boring, not functional, or is not a place where you feel comfortable relaxing, perhaps it is time to consider a bathroom remodeling project.

When you make your bathroom over you can transform it into an attractive room for relaxing after a hard day, and make it a more functional room to help you start your day. You can redecorate your bathroom in all areas including tubs, cabinets and floors, showing your personal taste. You can bring in new items that you never had before to make your bathroom feel complete, including a whirlpool, heated floor, frosted windows, or extra lights.

Other popular remodeling ideas include the addition fog-free mirrors, safety grab bars, anti-scald water regulators, a home audio and video installation, new fixtures, and water-saving toilets. Depending upon your budget and your desires, the remodeling job can be as basic or as extreme as you can imagine. Many large additions, such as bathtubs, will require reworking the floor plan so that sinks, toilets and tubs remain easily accessible.

When thinking about bathroom remodeling costs, remember that some of these costs are recouped via increased home value. If the remodeling task adds value in the buyer's eyes, when selling the house the owner will recoup a large portion of the investment. Remodeling work that emphasizes more the aesthetic touches than the improved functionality will often recoup less money.

It is wise to consider hiring a remodeling contractor to perform some or all of the work. Although you can save thousands of dollars by doing the bathroom remodeling work yourself, if you are inexperienced with such work, or lack the proper tools, the mistakes you make can quickly wipe out any savings.

A home improvement course through the local hardware store or local college is a great way to learn how to make improvements on your home. In fact it is important to take a course before you begin a project. It can save you time, headaches and money in the long run.

Mending Minor Wallpaper Rips

No matter how well you have hung your house wallpaper, it is still subject to wear and tear. As wallpaper ages through time, their adhesives weaken, the edges rip, and the colors fade. There are also some areas in the house where damage is unavoidable and more likely --- kids’ rooms fall in this category. Kids wallpapers are more exposed to stains and damage.

Damage will inevitably manifest itself as tears and rips in the material. However, you can still fix some of the imperfections provided you still have extra rolls of your wallpaper and borders. For other materials such as vinyl adhesive, a trip to your local home improvement store will offer what you need.

A simple tear can be re-glued almost inconspicuously. Same goes for visible seams that are the result of house wallpaper sections that have lifted themselves from the wall. The repair process is easy -- you just need to moisten the loose paper with a damp sponge, lift the paper from the wall, spread a thin layer of adhesive to its back, press it back to the wall, and roll the area with a seam roller. Sponge off any extra adhesive. Voila! Your house wallpaper is mended and looks nearly brand new.

For other imperfections, you just need to do the following:

Air bubbles – Air bubbles occur when an amount of air or a piece of debris is trapped between the wallpaper and the wall, resulting in tiny bulges on the surface of your wallpaper and borders. They are easily fixed though: If the air bubble contains a small piece of debris, just cut a small X mark on the spot, peel back the rips, remove the rubble, apply a thin layer of vinyl adhesive on the flaps and press the paper back to the wall, then roll them flat. If the bubble contains only air, fill a glue-injecting syringe with a small amount of thinned ready-mix adhesive; make a small slit on the bubble with a razor knife and squirt the adhesive through the slit. Roll the surface flat and wipe off any adhesive excess from the house wallpaper.

Big rips and tears – this kind of damage is commonly suffered by kids wallpaper, bathroom wallpaper, and kitchen wallpaper and borders. For problems like these, you need to patch them with wallpaper that bears the same pattern. This is where extra rolls come in handy.

1. With a utility knife, cut a piece from the spare wallpaper (make sure it’s larger than the damaged area), and then place it over the torn area while trying to match the pattern of the wallpaper.

2. Once you match the design, hold the extra wallpaper in place with blue safety tapes.

3. Trace the edges of the spare wallpaper with a razor, cutting the damaged wallpaper in the process.

4. Remove the spare wallpaper and moisten the damaged area with water to loosen the adhesive.

5. Remove the damaged area. Use a putty knife for vestiges you can’t lift with your finger.

6. Clean the wall surface where the new piece of wallpaper will be pasted. Apply primer if you are down to raw wall.

7. Apply wall covering adhesive to the new wallpaper and carefully place it on the wall.

8. Wipe off any excess adhesive with a damp sponge then roll the surface flat. Wipe off any moisture.

There are certain damages, though, that are irreparable, usually seen in kids wallpaper. The only solution here would be to redo the wall with new wallpaper.

Ideas For Interesting Window Treatments – Part Ii – Skylights And Sidelights

There are often many types of windows in a home. My previous article offered ideas for window treatments for standard window types, such as patio doors and other typical sizes. This article will offer ideas for two of the other window types that you may have in your home: skylights and sidelights (windows beside a door).

Starting with skylights, here are some window treatments options for you to consider. First, I would highly recommend cellular shades. You probably already know, but cell shades add insulation to your window. They come in single, double and triple cell, the latter offering the greatest amount of insulation. That said, cell shades are attractive and come in a wide variety of colors to compliment almost any décor. Also, cell shades can be purchased with a motorized function which is especially useful for skylights which are often out of reach.

If you want a slightly less expensive option consider pleated shades which essentially look the same as cell shades but do not have the excellent insulating properties. Both cellular and pleated shades come in a variety of light-filtering options from sheer to room darkening so you can choose how much light you want to be filtered. Lastly, both of these shades come specially designed to work with skylights and come with side tracks that hold the shade in place but allow it to open and close.

Next up are sidelights. Now not every home has sidelight but for those that do, choosing the right sidelight window treatment can really make a difference as it can make the entry way in your home really beautiful and functional. Sidelight shades need to be available in narrow widths, that is why there aren’t more choices. That said, there are slightly more choices for sidelights than skylights including, woven wood shades (also known as bamboo shades), cellular shades and sheer shades. Woven woods come in a huge variety of materials and weaves. The material choices include bamboo, grasses, rope, reeds, matchsticks, and wood planks. These materials are often woven together in different combinations and range in appearance from casual to elegant but all with a bent towards a more natural-look. Woven woods can also be purchased with optional liners for additional room-darkening and privacy.

Sheer shades are a versatile and elegant choice for sidelights. They are versatile because they are like two shades in one combining the functionality of a blind with the soft light filtering of shades. Sheer shades for sidelights have horizontal blinds (fabric vanes) with two sheer fabric facings over the fabric vanes. When the vanes are open the sheer fabric offers soft light-filtering and when closed offer privacy and light dimming. Cellular shades, as mentioned before, are attractive, come in a wide variety of colors and offer good insulation which is important for almost any home. For the sheer variety of fabric and other material combinations, I would recommend looking into woven woods but, they may not compliment every décor, whereas, cellular shades and sheer shades have more universal appeal.

The Antique, Classic, Modern And Country Style Of Decor

Decorating your home can be extremely difficult. Especially if you’re the type of person that likes to mix and match, or if your roommate, husband, partner, children are all into different styles of décor. Your home can easily become a mishmash of design and style, leaving it looking disorganized and all over the place! Don’t worry though, there are easy ways to define your style, the hard part can be sticking with that one style.

The key is to identify your style. Now, there are three major styles that you will find everywhere; modern or contemporary, country or traditional, and antique. There are many differences throughout the styles, but some tend to dip into each other. As long as they are in the same family, you should be safe changing up your style a little bit!

Modern or contemporary furniture is referred to furniture made after the 19th century until the present day. The major difference in modern furniture in comparison to traditional furniture is the simplicity of it. The basic shapes and bold colors replaced floral designs and busy patterns. While modern designs are typically easy to match with other modern styles, it can be hard tying that look in with others, like a country theme.

A country theme is quite different than the modern style, because it is typically patterned, like a checker pattern, or plaid. Generally speaking, a country theme creates a very “homey” style, making all guests feel welcome and right at home. Again, because of the busy patterns that are typically a characteristic of this style, it makes it hard to coordinate with other styles and mix and match with other furniture. Keep the designs simple, a solid wall paper with fun curtains, or vice versa.

Next is the classic furniture, like antique buffets. These styles are always beautiful, because these pieces were not manufactured by machines, but rather people’s hard working hands, constantly working to ensure the products are perfect. Many people collect these pieces for their rarity, when furniture was not mass produced by machines. This style is beautiful and can be elegantly mixed in with other styles, making it easier to decorate and keep a theme throughout the home that will last over time.

Each style represents a different place and time, and can be extremely beautiful. The key is to stick with one motif, and work with it. Take a look at some different styles and see which ones inspire you, and go from there.

The History Of Modern Dining Room Tables

There is something spectacular about a “grand room.” While it’s obvious that its name suggests greatness, it’s the idea of royalty and castles that go alongside with it that creates a lavish and extravagant mental picture in our minds. Over time, the way in which we dine has changed and evolved.

Food as we know it today started evolving around the 17th century when sandwiches started being created. From there, we got mayonnaise, tartar sauce, and a few years later came the good stuff. We had taffy, toffee, and butterscotch, which was great because they had also just invented ice cream cones. This is all in the 18th century, so they had a pretty solid foundation and variety of food. There are many recipes from then that are still around, and in use today.

Just like the food itself has adapted and been modified and changed, so has the way in which we eat. The common practice was to dine in a large “grand” hall. The king and queen, or head of the family, would sit on a raised platform area, with everyone else lined in diminishing order of rank to them. Typically, they were long tables with benches for chairs. This function would tend to get extremely loud, especially after the women had gone back to their rooms, while the men continued to drink and socialize. It was mostly due to the noise that the dining area started being separated or completely separated from the hall. These parlors started becoming used more and more often to have a more quiet time, with conversation and meals. It was this separation that eventually led to a private eating area.

One characteristic of all of these areas are large dining room tables. They are usually large, and have chairs placed alongside it. Many of them come with removable leaves that allow accommodations for extra guests and family. This is still a staple in our homes today. This area has become a formal space to eat dinner, like for family meals on Sunday, because most people are grabbing quick meals in the kitchen or in the car, but it’s still very much a focal point of the home that brings families together.

American Pottery, You and Your Home

Everyone wants to buy an American made product. Some of the best pottery in the world is made right here in the USA, but you may not know what to look for or where to find it.

There are many places that a person can find American made pottery for their home. In reality, you just have to know where to find it. It is also a good idea to know what kind of pottery you are looking for. This is because having an idea of the kind of pieces you are looking for can make you search simpler. If you want a vase, you will need to look for something that will work for that purpose and not something that you just any old thing you can find.

The first place that you want to look for your American pottery is going to be at your local dealers. Try finding someone that has their own studio pottery place and makes their own pottery. This will make sure that you are buying from an American dealer and not getting something that is more from a foreign company. You might also be able to find that you can get American pottery from a craft co op. This is because many different dealers are in one place and make it really easy to get what you want.

If you are not able to find what you need this way, you can try the Internet. There are a ton of things for sale on there and many people that have what others want to have. That will make it easy to get what you want as long as you are careful and take a minute to research what you are getting. That will help you to make sure that you get a real American made pottery piece.

It's not as hard as you might think to get the pieces that you are looking for if you are willing to take the time to look for them. Many people will look in one or two places and then give up. You can't do that if you are going to find that perfect piece of pottery. You can find it if you just keep looking and if you let people know what you want. Many dealers will look for items if you tell them what you want and how much you are willing to pay for it. So, don't give up and you will find it.

Dining Tables - Finding the Perfect One

Dining tables often fall into one of two categories. Either they are considered as the focal point of family life, where everyone meets once or twice each day to eat and to share news. Or they become a remote item that is just a little too far from the kitchen and the living room to merit much attention. Naturally, if you have a dining room table, you would probably like to make the most of it.

One of the things that determines whether or not your dining room table will receive popular attention, is its size in relationship to the number of people using it. Large families need large dining tables. Conversely, if you are just two or three people in the household, then a smaller dining room table will provide intimacy and a much cozier environment. If you need to have a large table just from time to time, for example for family get-togethers or for inviting guests, then think about a dining room table that can change size.

Changing the size of dining tables will depend either on how it has been designed or what you can add to it on occasion to increase the surface area. Dining room tables with leaves or extension surfaces allow you to use the smaller version of the table everyday, and then to separate the table into halves and add the extension leaves in between. You might also up for a separate surface to be placed on top of the table to extend the surface area, this separate surface can be used when required and covered and stored in the garage when not required.

Dining tables will also increase in usefulness when you have the right storage possibilities around them. If you constantly have to make the trip between the dining room and the kitchen in order to get plates, glasses or cutlery, you may well find yourself avoiding using your dining room table. So to avoid this situation, check out dining room tables with drawers that are built in, or else choose sideboards or cabinets that will complement your dining room table and give you that valuable storage space.

Remember also to protect your dining room table. It's quite likely that you will choose an elegant or even valuable dining room table, not only for its pleasing effects on guests, but also as a symbol of its importance to your family life. With all the dangers of food spillage, children using dining tables for homework or for drawing, it would be a shame to see a smooth surface or fine finish damaged by a small accident.

Protect your dining room table by using a suitable tablecloth, and possibly by using a covering under the tablecloth made of thin foam rubber or similar material. This will give a certain degree of protection against heavy or sharp objects being placed on the surface of the table, and if you also use placemats and trivets underneath any hot dishes, your dining room table should retain its impeccable finish for many years to come.

You can also get ones that are very modern in appearance with clean lines and a symmetrical design, which is then further enhanced by a rich coffee finish.

Along with the styles just mentioned, wood coffee tables are also available in other styles as well including those that are more traditional in nature, others that have more of a country feel, some that are very art deco, and there are even ones that combine styles known as transitional options.

World Globes - Great Home Decor Options

Ready to have the whole world in your hands? You can if you have world globes in your home.

Believe it or not, world globes are a big part of home décor these days. With the idea of culture and being a world traveler in vogue, showing how much you know about the world and understand it makes you in style.

This is so much the case that some people are using world globes as the centerpiece for a complete world décor theme.

Here's how it works:

They first choose the kind of world globe they want to base their décor around. If you think there is only one type of globe, you haven't seen the world of globes recently, and you have a wide variety at your fingertips. While there are the typical, modern day globes as you would expect, there are also plenty of globes that represent various times in history as well as some that focus more on the nautical look at the world than a land mass view.

You can even double your pleasure by choosing more than one globe that will best suit your décor desires. For example, if you love the older look of the world, you may want to choose more than one antique globe, each depicting a different time in history. You can line them up chronologically as a way to watch the progression of time in your home.

Once you have the globes in place, it's time to build a room around them. In the example we already used, there are two to three globes, depicting different times in history. Now we can add to these with other items that make sense to go with the important empires in the world and their cultures. Depending on how far back you have gone, the globes you own could show off anything from Ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian items, or, for more modern globes, collectibles depicting the world wars that occurred around the times those globes are representing.

It's not just other accenting trinkets that will make your room, but the rest of the decorative touches you add as well. Instead of boring walls, what about decorating those walls with navigational wallpaper (depicting globes or special moments in history), or better yet, find old world maps that can match your old world globes and set them in lush frames on the walls around your globes.

Now that you have the setting created, you need to make sure you have furniture that will work with the style you have created. Not just any sitting area will do in this space. You need to take things back in time to join the world globes that you are showing off.

Think back to what it would have been like to be in an adventurer's club at the turn of the century. Large, overstuffed leather chairs filled with big game hunters talking about the rhino or tiger that barely got away from them, all the while swirling their brandy around in a snifter. This furniture is easy to find and can create the complete picture-perfect setting for any room in your house.

Sofa Tables - One is the Perfect Way to Bring Some Style Into Your Living Space

You have this bare, empty spot on your wall in the living room that is just glaring at you. You want to fill it up in some kind of decorative way, but you're not sure as to what to do. Well, you can stop worrying about it because all you need to do is rely on sofa tables to solve your problem.

Okay, so you might be scratching you head and thinking, "Sofa tables, how are they going to do anything?" The answer is because of their beautiful appearance. That's right, sofa tables have a stunning look that is the result of all the eye-catching substances they can be crafted from and the many ways their look can be completed through different designs and finishes.

For instance, you can get a sofa table that is crafted from luscious maple wood that features just a simple, straight forward design while being finished in a clear lacquer to show off the beauty of the wood. Or, you could get one that has a very ornamental appearance with a base made from wrought iron that features looping scrollwork and accents finished in an antique patina color while supporting a glass table top.

These are just some of the substance, finishing, and design options available because there are many, many more. So many, that it would take too long to list them all. What can be talked about though is how all these elements combined to form sofa tables of all sorts of styles from those that are very traditional in nature, as seen by the first example listed above, to others that are very antique in appearance, something that was exemplified in the second selection mentioned. In addition those, some of the other style choices you can get include modern, contemporary, art deco, and even transitional options that combine styles.

In addition to being pleasing to the eye, sofa tables also have a practical side to them because of the different features that they can have. Take their table tops as an example, they offer you the perfect spot to both set down and display a wide variety of items. They can also come with drawers and shelves where you can store different things. Some will even come with cabinets offering you even more space to stow items away including family photo books, board games, and books.

To check out all the sofa tables that you could possibly purchase, the thing to do is to go online and do your shopping there. In a matter of minutes you can browse through all the options just by the click and glide of the mouse. When you do come across something that you like, it will generally be at a pretty reasonable price and it will be shipped right to your home. Now, that is pretty convenient.

So, to dress up the look of that empty spot in your living room, just turn to sofa tables to get the job done. There are many eye-catching options to choose from.

There are a wonderful range of Girls Room Bedding to suit all tastes and preferences. These lovely bedding products come in a range of exquisite colors, patterns and prices so that every little girl can acquire the type of bedding product that she is interested in.

Pastel colors of pink, blue, yellow and, cream, white and lilac seem to be the most popular colors for girls room bedding.

However, character bedding is especially popular with children which is largely due to the realistic portrayal of cartoon characters in books and movies. Children are inspired by them and they can seem like real people or animals to them.

Characters such as Disney Princess and other similar types of bedding are very popular with little girls everywhere. They come in a range of lovely pastel colors such as pink, blue, yellow, lilac and other colors. It has to be said there are some lovely children's bedding products which include girl's room bedding to suit all bed sizes, including the babies and toddlers range.

Of course, there doesn't have to be a specific character involved and perhaps your little girl likes flowers, animals and a variety of other designs which are very classic and stylish that are suitable for every age range of children.

When searching for products, it is a great idea to do a thorough research of the type of bedding items available in offline stores as well as online in order to get a better idea of what is available to suit your little girl's choice of girl's room bedding.

Wall Decals - The Perfect "Stick-on" Design

They've suddenly become the rage and for good reason. It used to be that wall decals or wall stickers, were sold primarily as an alternative to permanently alerting a child's room for the sake of kid decor. There were wall sticker options for all sorts of children's room themes. But, the market has since expanded and wall decals have grown up. Companies are springing up with collectives of visual artists, creating walls decals or wall tattoos that are as artistic as they are functional.

How can a wall decal be functional, you ask? Well, most of them have been engineered so that they are removable and reusable. So whether you have a phobia to commit to any one home design approach, or perhaps you want to stage your home for sale, but don't want to invest vast sums into wall art- well, here is where wall decals can offer some practical value.

These decals are easier than paint in that they only take minutes to put on, they do not damage the wall and are, as mentioned, removable. They are usually sold as multi pack packages, that contain various decals- all part of the same theme. In this regard, you have some creative input as to how you'd like to arrange your decals. Prices generally range from $12- $165, so these creative additions can be done on any budget.

There are so many options out there that range from sophisticated art designs, to video game inspired graphics. Many companies are coming up with irreverent wall furniture. So, you can't afford that incredible head board and all you have is an uninspired futon? You can now paste an elaborate gothic inspired headboard tattoo onto your wall. Who needs reality, when fantasy can dance about your walls?!

Of course, now more than ever, there are even more kid friendly options for wall decals. The fact that your children change their design whims on a monthly basis may not be so much of a problem any longer. Instead of sucking it up, and painting your child's room that unbearably garish pink, you can sit down with her, and order some decals that suit her tastes. And, if next year, she's all about black- well, then she can save up her allowance and buy some black decals. (and thank-goodness you can avoid painting the room black...)

Really, the wall decal generation can satisfy a lot of whimsical design ideas that could otherwise turn out disastrous- or at the very least expensive, time consuming, and permanent. Here is your chance to play, and with very little risk. All that your really putting on the line, is the cost of the decal. And even then, if you don't like them in one room, simply try them somewhere else.

Although decals can easily be applied on painted surfaces they shouldn't be used on wallpaper, tile or paneling. Before applying, surfaces should be clean, dry and smooth. Just set-up, plan your design and stick to your heart's content.

Small Space Bedroom Design Ideas - How to Decorate Your Small Spaces

  • Use window treatments to bring the windows up and give the illusion of height. Hang curtain rods at least 12-16" above the window and use light and flowy fabric for a soft romantic look. Heavy and dark draperies will bring the walls in and contribute to a smaller appearance.
  • Choose paint colors that will reflect light and work well within your space. In this small townhouse bedroom, we used Benjamin Moore's Algonquin Trail (#1055). It works great with blues/reds/greens, and provides a great backdrop for a variety of styles without darkening the room.
  • Place furniture in alcoves or at an angle for added interest in a small boxy room. Find a bed frame with ample room underneath for added storage. Add side tables with storage, and lamps for great ambient lighting.
  • Find a floor mirror and place it on an empty wall for the illusion of space. Place a floor lamp next to it for added light reflection. This is a great way to make a room look bigger without adding additional bulky furniture.
  • If you have hardwood floors, find a great patterned rug to add interest to the floor. Place at an angle to the furniture.
  • Add wall shelves for storage. Situate books/accessories nicely on the shelves so they are points of interest rather than just a bookshelf. Keep clutter to a minimum by maximizing your closet space with baskets/shelves.

Home Decorating - Unique Bedroom Headboards

The headboard is really the only visible part of your bed. The rest of your bed is hidden under the mattress, the sheets and duvet. Considering that the bed is the focal point in the bedroom, wouldn't it be great if you got yourself a unique headboard that you are unlikely to see in anybody else's bedroom? Sure you can go out and buy a fabulous bed set with the most gorgeous headboard. But no matter how good it looks, unique it is not.

Take a look at these 5 pieces that can be used as headboards. Get one for your bed and you can be sure your bedroom will soon be the talk of the town.

Room Divider as Headboard
Using a room divider as a headboard is a simply brilliant idea; it's simple to implement and adds a touch of brilliance to any bedroom makeover endeavor. A wrought iron gate with a figural motif can instantly transform your bedroom into an ancient castle full of romance and mystery. For a 'you're-definitely-never-gonna-see-this-anywhere-else' kind of look get one specially made with your initials incorporated into the design. Wrought iron gates go well with bedrooms that are designed in the Mexican, Italian or Gothic styles.

A fireplace mantle headboard goes great with a shabby chic as well as a cottage bedroom.

Beveled Mirrors as Headboard
While a gigantic mirror may be overwhelming as a headboard, smaller sized square mirrors with beveled edges can be placed on the wall with interesting buttons or any other round item placed at every corner at the meeting place of the squares. A mirrored headboard can open up the room dramatically and it's a great and easy way to make a small bedroom appear much larger.

Tell any of your friends about your unique headboard and you've have people streaming into your bedroom for a sneak peek.

Redecorate Your Teenage Girls Bedroom With Flair

If you're getting ready to redecorate your teenage girls bedroom here are some tips to keep in mind.

You have the Internet as a source of all sorts of creative ideas to implement, and most of them don't have to be very expensive at all.

The biggest thing I would say is talk to your daughter first. Get her input. After all she's not a little child anymore.. she has opinions and preferences that make a difference.

She spends a lot of time in her bedroom if she's like other teenagers I know, so getting it right will score you a lot of cool points. So make an effort to work with her so that her bedroom reflects her sense of style and not just yours. What kind of personality does she have.. is she outgoing wild and fun.. or more reserved and shy...?

If she's shy, she probably won't want a bedroom decked out in neon orange and black I would imagine...

Since the bed is naturally the main focal point of her bedroom, start there.

Does she need new bedding... if so what colors can both of you agree on for the comforter or duvet cover or blankets. Go for bed sheets that complement or offset your blanket or comforter choice so the colors don't all blend in and become overwhelming.

For example, let's say you agree that green and shades of green would be good for the comforters and or blankets. Why not go for a bold pink for your sheets and pillowcases to set everything off and make it look really cool...? Maybe it's time to just have some fun and think outside of the box when you're dealing with your favorite teenager. Get funky. She'll love it and so will you.

Remember to consider the window treatments also, and keep away from drab humdrum and boring colors and textures. Mix it up- maybe find some corduroy or other interesting fabric in dark green or pink for her drapes using my example there.

Try a really cool novelty clock for the walls. Add a couple interesting shaped mirrors. Let her add some of her favorite posters- and add more interest by framing them with really cool deco art frames. Not too expensive either if you check out your local hobby shop.

Don't forget area rugs and complementing colors and textures also. You could add some fresh paint, dress up areas of the wall using stencils, also very inexpensive at your local hobby shop.

You and your teenage girl can get together and really create a bedroom you'll both be proud of, and one that she will spending time in- just let your creativity out and have fun.

Space Saving Ideas For Your Studio Apartment Or Small Flat

Here are some options to consider that will offer more space, make your small studio look more spacious and provide more storage space.

If you are living in a studio flat there are several plausible solutions for you to consider, the most obvious option would be to fit a small bed and a small sofa into the room however, depending on the size of the room, this may not leave much space for other bedroom or living room furniture which in itself defeats the purpose of having a sofa in the first place. If you cannot socialise in the room comfortably then you are probably better simply having a bed in the room, push it against a wall and place pillows on the wall when visitors are around to give the impression of a sofa, the key is to choose furniture that is not obviously bedroom furniture, get rid of all teddies and bedroom paraphernalia, keep the bed linen very simple and when guests are visiting throw a heavy weight throw over the bed and scatter pillows on it to give the impression that it is a seat. There are several bed frames on the market that are a divan/day bed style with support on the back and sides of the bed, making it look similar to a sofa than a place to sleep.

This idea of having a smart bed double as a seating area is also a good idea for students living in student accommodation where you have one room for yourself, another option for students is buying a sofa bed or futon, the advantage being that if you do want people around then you can fold it back up to give you more space. Again, a sofa bed can be a good option for a studio apartment for its functionality but it may not be the comfiest of beds in the world.

If you have bought a studio flat, or if your bedroom is particularly small, it may be wise to do something more drastic not only to give you more space but doing so may increase the value of the property. A mezzanine is a very clever way of getting more storage space for a small bedroom and can create a whole new area for living space. A mezzanine is an intermediate floor constructed between the main floors of a building, in a single room, how much room a mezzanine can give you is entirely dependant upon the height on the ceilings, the most common practise is to place a mattress and sleeping area up on the "second" floor providing you with a new bedroom with an alcove area that can be used for wardrobes or cupboards. However, how well a mezzanine works is entirely dependant upon the size of the existing room and getting a good architect, and if anything just raising your bed to chest height will give you enough extra space to put in some high quality storage.

If your bedroom is still too small for this then another option is a Murphy's pull down bed; a bed that is usually hidden vertically inside a cupboard but can then be pulled down into a horizontal position for sleeping. The benefit of this obviously being that when the bed is hidden away, duvet and all, the bedroom can transform into a living area giving you the best of both worlds. Murphy's beds are most suited placed in a cupboard unit that stretches an entire wall so you can have the bed and wardrobes on either side, so that when vertical there is no hint of a bed at all.

If you can fit a bed into your room, and a sofa, but not really your clothes or your CD's then you can purchase a divan bed with drawers underneath, or as suggested above pay for a second floor to be built under which you can use for storage or if you simply cannot afford that invest in under bed storage from somewhere like IKEA who specialise in affordable space saving solutions.

Sports-themed bedrooms for boys are always a great way to go for the athlete in your family. Here are some great ways to create a baseball theme boys bedroom on a budget.

1) Paint the room a basic beige color to mimic the color of the field. I used Benjamin Moore Deer Path #1047.

2) Add a mural on one wall to create an at the stadium feeling in the bedroom. I used this easy-to-install mural for a great effect.

3) Choose a simple painted bed with an open headboard so the mural is easily viewable. For the bedding, you can purchase a sports-themed set, or just get a plain blue quilt, and jazz it up with accessories. Use baseball pillows/sheets/blankets for a more cohesive look.

4) Create a nightstand out of an old locker, or paint an old nightstand bright red and put a baseball knob on the drawers/door. You can also purchase nightstands that look like lockers. You can add a baseball lamp to pull it together.

5) It's easy to re-purpose an existing ceiling fan by painting it red or blue, and applying baseball decals, or you can find a great baseball fan ready to install at Lowes.

6) For window treatments, create a custom valance by using team pennants which you can find on Ebay! String them together with rope and tack them to the wall or string them to a curtain rod. Use plain blue panels for extra privacy.

7) For extra touches, add a baseball rug, baseball knobs to the closet doors, or some framed pictures of their favorite players.

Your boys baseball room is sure to be a hit with all his friends. Take me out to the ball game!

Advantages of a Wood Wine Rack

Make a showcase out of your wine cellar with racks to hold the bottles. You want to be able to sort, store and display your collection of wine. This is no small feat to accomplish. Many start with the dilemma of whether to use wire or wooden racks. Lets look at the advantages of a wood wine rack and then you make the choice for yourself.

Wood Has Appeal
A long time favorite of wine collectors for centuries, wood has a look and feel fitting of such a bountiful harvest of aging fruit in a bottle to its full potential. The rustic look and feel of wood is a favorite amongst wine collectors for its shear appeal. It is synonymous with remembrance of centuries of wood racks filling a cellar. Some want that old look and feel to their storage.

Shear Strength
In comparison with the amount of weight it can hold wood is strong enough to hold a lot of weight. One bottle does not weigh so much but get three or four hundred bottles on a rack and the strength of wood stands the test of weight and time. Wood lasts you for years to come and easily maintained or repaired as the years go on. If a metal rack that is full of over four hundred bottles of wine begins to give way at the bottom, all you can do is hope it holds long enough to get all the bottles out and attempt to repair it. Wood holds its strength and shows age as years go on and on before you would dream of having such a catastrophe.

Easy To Work With
Many people use the wood racks because they are easy to put together. It is easy even for a less experienced person to build with whether you want to stack them vertically or horizontally. Wood is light in comparison the weight it holds making it more unproblematic to work with. It is also not going to break your bottles when loading or unloading them from the rack. This is one major drawback to metal racks. If you knock a bottle into the side of a metal rack, it is more than likely going to crack or shatter.

Color Appeal
You may want to keep the wood look raw and untouched but many want to have it add more color and flare to a wine cellar. Paint a wine wood rack in any color, style or design your heart desires. Choose one solid color or simply a wood stain. If you like, go abstract and paint it multiple colors to make it stand out. It is simply a pallet and you are the artist.

Accent Your Home With Simple Picture Frame Ideas

A great way to decorate your home in my opinion is with lots and lots of pictures. However, too many people pay little attention to the custom picture frames surrounding the picture and the meaning behind it gets lost. I'm sorry but picture frames are more than a tool to hang a photo from a wall. Think of picture framing kits as that "finishing touch" which can add the dramatic flair you desire to the pictures they enclose.

Unfortunately, not too many of us know how to properly dress up our pictures and our walls. I constantly am seeing custom picture frames used improperly. They are either hung in the incorrect manner, don't match the photo or worse yet, don't go with the room they are in. I'm here to help.

If your room has light colored walls and flooring, you are better off choosing contrasting colored wood photo frames to accentuate the colors of the furniture. The opposite holds true for dark colored walls and flooring. Choosing a softer, colored picture frames allows those colors to come out even more. Instead of looking at your walls and only seeing an open space, look at the complete picture of what you want to create from wall to floor. This is a much easier way to get a better sense of what others will see as they walk into your home.

Try adding a new dimension to your wall with staggering the heights of different custom picture frames. Your picture frame kits don't need to be hung at the same exact height. I love the staggering look of hanging frames. The varying positions of the wood photo frames are a great eye catcher and an interesting design for someone to see. It's easy to do too as long as you have the correct picture framing supplies and a pre cut mat board.

Try positioning them in a "snake" across the wall or maybe a zigzag positioning of the pictures. If there are furniture in the corners of your room, try setting the picture frames up in a way which focuses the eyes on them. This can work to highlight something or points the eye away towards another part of the room. I always felt this adds a nice accent to any room while bringing out the rich colors of your furnishings to an even greater degree.

Another great picture frames idea is to alter the sizes of the custom picture frames used to match the expanse of your wall. I like to try smaller wood photo frames in warm areas like bathrooms and hallways and larger ones for large wall areas to accent the ceiling heights. Try working in a large custom picture frames with a couple of smaller ones, too.
