10 Recession Style Decorating Tips

With our economy very gloomy and disposable income at at low, you still can decorate and feel good about your home. Our homes have long since been our haven of peace and security. It is where we show the world who we are in turn of our personality achievements and family lifestyle. Lets take a look at a several ways to keep decorating even in a rough economy. For those who have a passion for decorating your going to love this article.

1. Everything old is new. Try slip covering a chair a stool or pillows out of old blankets, sheets and clothing.

2. Go shopping in your family and friends closets, garages and attacks. You will discover many cast offs can be your new found treasures. Besides they are suppose to be getting rid of that old chair.

3. The Dollar Store has become my new bff. I recently found silver circular mirrors about 10" wide and placed 12 of them in a grid pattern to make a funky powder room wall look so chic for $12.00. Be creative look at items you can use in repeat design statement. Use multiples of three.

4. Yard Sales are an old staple and people want to get rid of things fast and cheap. Try a new neighborhood or community sale. Know what your looking for and what your willing to pay then negotiate.

5. Re-Design move your existing furniture and decor around for a fresh appeal and a new vibe.
I just switched my living room and office around after realizing no one ever sits in the larger sized living room compared to the smaller office where the family computer is. OK so I have a fire place in my office.

6. Have an Home decor swap party. Everyone brings a dessert and three or more things from home to swap. The hostess creates raffle tickets to give to guest and when your number is call you can chose from the items that have been assembled. Everyone gets something, yeah!!! Have fun with this.

7. Have a friend over for coffee and the start cleaning out that space that really needs it. Nothing is better than clean in the decorating process. With all that caffeine and conversation the two of you will be done in no time.

8. Free items can be found at on line classifieds such as Craig's List one of my favorite. Then repaint and or embellish you free item

9. Think green- revamp, replenish, recover, reuse, recycle, re purpose, rejuvenate, reposition, replace and should I continue. Think outside your own box, sit and really think. Become a designer in your own mind. I will write more on this in my next article.

10. Barter with someone in the interior design business, you never know what you have they might need after all were just designers. What product or service can you supply? Bartering is one of the oldest systems that will be revived in the economy.
